Choose e-liquid by device, nicotine and flavour

Liquid choice should start with the device and draw style. Nicotine type, strength, viscosity and flavour then become much easier to judge.

Quick answer:

Liquid choice should start with the device and draw style. Nicotine type, strength, viscosity and flavour then become much easier to judge.

Device first

Start with the device before choosing nicotine or flavour

The same e-liquid can feel very different in a small MTL pod and a high-power DL setup. Coil resistance, power and airflow change vapour volume, flavour intensity and liquid consumption.

Choose the device and draw style first, then narrow down nicotine type, strength and flavour.

Nicotine type

Nicotine salt and freebase liquids are not the same experience

Nicotine-salt liquids are commonly used in compact MTL systems, while freebase liquids are available across a wide range of strengths and flavour styles.

Neither format is automatically “better”. The sensible choice depends on device, draw style and personal preference.

Viscosity

PG/VG balance affects wicking and vapour production

Higher-VG liquids are thicker and are often associated with more open, higher-power setups. Smaller pods may need a thinner liquid to feed the coil reliably.

Use the manufacturer guidance for the exact pod or coil rather than relying on a universal PG/VG rule.

Flavour & coil life

Sweet and heavily flavoured liquids can change maintenance needs

Some liquids leave more deposits on the heating surface than others. That can shorten useful coil life or change flavour more quickly.

If a familiar liquid suddenly tastes muted or burnt, checking the coil is often more useful than blaming the liquid itself.

German product limits

Nicotine-containing e-liquid is subject to clear legal limits in Germany

German tobacco-product law sets a maximum nicotine concentration of 20 mg/ml for nicotine-containing liquids and limits nicotine refill containers to 10 ml.

Legal limits are product rules, not a personal dosing recommendation. Choose strength with the device, draw style and your own situation in mind.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between nicotine salt and freebase nicotine?

They use different nicotine forms and can feel different when inhaled. Which one suits you depends on the device and your personal preference.

Which liquid works in a pod system?

It depends on the specific pod, coil resistance, power and manufacturer guidance. Many compact MTL systems use suitable 10 ml or nicotine-salt liquids.

How do I choose nicotine strength?

Consider your device, draw style and previous use. More vapour per puff often changes what strength feels appropriate. If you are unsure, seek qualified advice rather than guessing.

Why does the same liquid taste different in another device?

Coil design, power, airflow and temperature all change how flavour components are perceived.

Can very sweet liquids wear coils faster?

They can contribute to deposits on the coil. Coil life also depends on power, liquid consumption, maintenance and the individual liquid.
